Overview
We’re upgrading about one mile of electric line in Commerce City, as part of our 64th Avenue Electric Project. We’ll work along 64th Avenue between Holly and Quebec streets and will upgrade about 4,700 feet of overhead line and replace 27 power poles. We will also replace some underground electric lines.
Upgrading aging electric infrastructure supports continued delivery of safe and reliable electric service and prepares the system to meet future customer needs. For customers, this means a reduced chance of outages, more resilient infrastructure, reduced wildfire risk, modernized equipment and adaptability for future growth.

Construction will begin in September 2026 and continue through winter 2026.

During construction, you may notice:
- Marking of utility lines and utility survey holes
- Road and sidewalk closures with parking restrictions
- Temporary changes to access
- Construction noise
- Work area restoration as weather allows

- Watch for construction crews and equipment
- Do not enter construction areas
- Obey signage and directions from crews
- Follow posted trail detours and respect temporary closures near construction areas
- Reduce speeds while traveling

- Remain flexible as work progresses and work areas shift

Safety
The safety of the public influences every decision we make. We take a proactive approach by implementing safety measures before, during and after construction, including clear signage, traffic management and routine inspections.
Our electric system, including distribution lines, is monitored by a 24/7/365 staffed control center. If there is an unanticipated event in the system, the flow of electricity into the system is shut off at a nearby substation to protect the public.
We inspect our infrastructure regularly to check for damage, equipment needing repair or replacement and anything else that might jeopardize safe, reliable operation of our equipment.
In the event of an electric infrastructure problem, clear the area immediately and contact Xcel Energy’s emergency number: 800-895-1999. Call 911 in an emergency.
